The minutes were approved by the board.

3.            Financial report—Ted

The financial report was not presented. Ted undertook to distribute it by email.

4.            Review of Festival race

In general the RIRSC participation at the WBF 2005 and the race was seen as positive. The Hoh Ceremony was a highlight.

The race was well organized by the WBF and worked well on the water. There was concern that the categories and classes of competitors were different, less inclusive, than in prior years. More categories and more fun prizes were agreed to be important for next year.

Concern was also raised that club members who wanted to row in the WBF Rowing Race were unable to get seats in a boat. This occurred because the club had agreed to let the Nails row the Husky Challenger. The board discussed this and unanimously approved the following rule concerning guest rowers in a race: “In any race (in PT or elsewhere) club members will have preference for seats in club boats.”

The board agreed to offer to organize the Rowing Race for next years WBF. John &/or Tim to contact Aletia to explore the option.

5.            Review of committee operations

Most committees have been quiescent. The board liaisons were encouraged to kick start, delegate or otherwise get the rowers involved in getting the club further organized.

6.            Next novice classes and Feedback from the prior Novice Classes

The board discussed the opportunities for further Novice classes in 2005. Erica, with help from Ken Shelton will organize the next set of Novice classes to be held in an intensive weekend session over October 15-16 at Lake Leland. There will also be a Novice 2 class offered to graduates of the Novice rowing classes earlier in the year. Further details to be defined.

7.            Review of Club mission

The mission of the Rat Island Rowing and Sculling Club is to provide opportunity to youth and adults in the Greater Port Townsend community to learn and improve sweep and scull rowing skills through recreational and competitive rowing programs, and to preserve and celebrate the legacy of traditional wood racing shells.”

This topic was superseded by the discussion on the Festival Race.

8.            Policy on membership refunds

Jon Langdon has requested refund. The request was granted by the board. Refund decisions will be made on a case by case basis. At this time no rules are needed.

9.            Web site design

The structure of the website makes navigation to club information difficult. Ted undertook to work with Jim Buckley to get a revised structure.

10.       Good of the Order

a.     Tim distributed lists of members who need to complete membership forms, waivers and float tests. The board members are to call and remind members of the need to compliant with each of these documents.

b.     Lorna reminded Ted of the need to acquire more sculling oars so that the Sun and WAC can be rowed.
